Celebrate Your Independents

Celebrate Your IndependentsThe 4th of July is a wonderful time to reflect on what makes independence worth embracing. America has always been something of a grand experiment. The Founding Fathers embraced new ideas and those that made the journey with and after them carried this spirit of diverse thought with them. It is this type of spirit that has created American communities with distinct personalities of their own making.
Independent businesses are crucial building blocks in a community’s foundation.  The reasons for supporting local, independent business are many. Often times the financial benefit is what makes the news. Who wouldn’t want to make sure that the dollars they spend are being returned and reinvested in their community? But there is more to supporting local, independent businesses than just keeping your dollars local.

There are very real cultural and communal effects of having a thriving local scene. These business are a part of the very fabric that makes your community your community. Your downtown or business center doesn’t look like a fabricated concept. Independent local business owners are continuously evolving to meet the needs of their neighborhood. They are quicker to adapt and meet customer requests and demands. Their goal is to get you what you need and ask for, not to sell to a demographic based on a corporate chart where your purchase is one of a million. It is a very real, one-to-one interaction and reaction.

Independent business is business on a personal scale, an ever-evolving interaction between citizens that keeps our neighborhoods unique, vibrant, and diverse. Truly the hallmarks of democracy.

Happy Independents Day!
